Tamron's 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens is their first high-speed zoom lens for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras. It's equipped with a range of features that will help you to produce stunning images and crystal-clear video footage. A maximum aperture of f2.8 across the entire 4.1x zoom ratio provides comprehensive control of depth of field and enables superb optical performance in low-light conditions. Incredible Optical Performance

The 17-70mm focal length offers a 4.1x zoom ratio which is a versatile visual range that is equivalent to 25.5-105mm on full-frame cameras. The lens is constructed from 16 glass elements in 12 groups. This includes two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element. These are arranged in such a way that maintains high-resolution performance and edge-to-edge sharpness.

Tamron's VC Mechanism

To ensure effective image and video capture, Tamron has equipped this lens with their powerful proprietary Vibration Compensation mechanism. This combined with additional sophisticated algorithms, which are optimised for this model, and with the independently operating MPU, the lens can effectively compensate for vibration. This feature can be utilised with Sony APS-C camera bodies that both do or do not feature in-body stabilisation. Additionally, when shooting video footage, image stabilisation performance is improved by utilising the lens's AI technology.

The RXD Motor

Tamron's RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit provides this enables this lens to achieve exceptionally quiet and fast autofocusing. The autofocus drive uses a sensor that accurately detects the position of the lens whilst the RXD motor delivers the optimised autofocus control. This combination is what allows this lens to achieve such fast and accurate autofocus and in turn, provides incredibly sharp images, even with continuously moving subjects shot at the standard zoom position. Also, quiet AF performance allows this lens to be used in shooting scenarios where discretion is vital. It also makes this lens ideal for recording smooth video footage.

Intelligent Design

This lens has been designed to be compact, lightweight and highly portable. It's been crafted with a moisture-resistant construction which provides an additional layer of protection when shooting outdoors in adverse weather conditions. The seals are located at the lens mount and other critical locations along the barrel which deters moisture and/or raindrops.
