The Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens is a fast, fixed focal-length Nikkor lens with a built-in Silent Wave Motor (SWM) to enable smooth and quiet autofocus. The high-quality optical system delivers fantastic image quality, minimising both flare and chromatic aberration. Ideal for portrait photography, general use, and video recording, this lens has an ultra-fast maximum aperture of f1.4, with a unique rounded 9-blade diaphragm for smooth, natural bokeh.

Exceptional background blur

With a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and Nikon's unique rounded 9-blade diaphragm, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G renders a remarkably smooth, natural background blur (bokeh). This makes it an ideal lens for portraits - subjects can be isolated from their backgrounds for a dramatic composition.

Versatile angle of view

The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G offers a classic, "normal" (50mm) angle of view when used on an FX-format DSLR or 35mm film camera. When used on a DX-format camera, however, it becomes an ideal portrait lens, approximating the moderate telephoto perspective of a 75mm lens on an FX-format DSLR or 35mm film camera. Close focusing to 1.5 ft extends versatility.

Comfortable Working Distance

The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G allows for a comfortable working distance between you and your subject - producing a more natural response.

Fast Normal

When used on an FX DSLR, the perspective rendered by the 50mm nearly matches the human eye. The background blur is exaggerated thanks to its f/1.4 aperture. This results in a natural appearance of the subject within the image. When used on a DX DSLR, the 50mm lens acts as a 75mm portrait lens with the subject filling more of the frame.

Nikon Terminology:

SWM = Silent Wave Motor - AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor, which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology.

M/A = Manual/Automatic - Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens.

SIC = Super Integrated Coating - Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
